Founders Note
My name is Cory Christopher
I am the owner and founder of Bayside Buggies. I was born in Saginaw, MI, and have lived in Bay City, MI, on and off throughout my life. I'm 33 years old and a single father of two. I started my journey, and what I consider now, my purpose in business, in 2021 after overcoming many hardships and personal battles involving the loss of loved ones, alcohol, and poverty as I struggled with depression and anxiety associated with my counterproductive lifestyle.
My first business was vending machines, although never fully operational, the experience gave me the starting point in researching all aspects of business and forging professional relationships to nurture and aid this business, and the next venture. My main goal and understanding of why I found myself pursuing such an unforgiving career path was the realization that I was more accountable for my successes and failures as an entrepreneur. My drive to succeed was more than I had as a regular employee dependent on coworkers or a boss to confirm my belief in the value I added with my skills and talents. Now today I understand my own belief in myself and the results gained from my efforts are all I need to stay purpose-driven. As well as giving my kids a living example of what I, them, and people in general are capable of enduring and accomplishing when they have belief and passion in their purpose.
In 2022, I came across an investor who saw my dedication and drive to grow myself into a reputable and successful entrepreneur. While looking for a viable and suitable business for the Bay City area, I discovered Pedicabs, or as I would deem them later, "Buggies." I set out to soak up as much inside knowledge about the industry by sitting down with multiple pedicab business owners and, in doing so, gained 5 workhorse pedicabs from my new mentor and friend.
While preparing for the start of the business, I grew my contacts by networking, and growing my skills by going back to school for welding to apply to my business, as well as signing up for business coaching and refinement programs provided by the SBDC. After personally refurbishing our buggies mechanically and aesthetically with mechanical assistance from local bike shops, we started operating seasonally in the summer of 2023. I continue to develop the business and myself by reaching out to form bonds and relationships with people, businesses, and organizations to help turn this backyard business into a reputable and successful venture, and myself into a valuable addition to my community.
